Charmi AI Review

Some AI companion sites throw a wall of avatars at you and hope for the best. Charmi takes a calmer route. The Explore page opens with a big search bar, a Recommended dropdown, an 18+ toggle sitting right next to it, and a row of genre chips: Romance, Anime, Fantasy, Comedy, Action, Sci-Fi, Horror, Villain, Yandere, Tsundere and more off to the right. You don’t need an account to look around, which I appreciate.

What kind of characters live here

The site describes itself as a chat platform for adult, fictional AI characters, each with its own voice, opening scene and memory of your conversation. The popular list mixes the usual companion types with some properly odd ideas. Next to names like Kyria, Lyra and Victoria you’ll find premises such as Reincarnated as a Dog!, a Medieval Knight, City Without a Center, and my personal favourite, a character that is apparently a 15x15cm Tungsten Cube. Somebody on the team has a sense of humour.

There are also curated character guides grouping reviewed characters by intent: girlfriend, boyfriend, anime, roleplay, companion, plus text adventure games and simulators. If you’ve used Character.AI or Janitor AI, the site even has comparison pages for you.

Features beyond text

The left sidebar is where the app shows its depth: Explore, For You, Create, Messages, Favorites, Quests, Upgrade, Store and Partners. The help links mention voice calls, photos and short action videos from characters, and a builder to create your own. Up in the top right there’s a coin balance and an energy counter, which tells you there’s a credit system behind the fancier features. I couldn’t see prices from the scan, so check Upgrade and Store before you spend anything.

Look and feel

It’s a near-black interface with soft gray cards and Source Sans text. Very clean, very app-like. While I was testing, the character grid showed placeholder cards for a moment before the art loaded in, so it isn’t instant. The layout uses a proper mobile viewport and the sidebar collapses, so it’s comfortable on a phone. Language support is wide too: English, Chinese, Japanese, Korean, German, French, Spanish, Portuguese, Russian, Arabic, Hindi, Indonesian, Thai and Vietnamese.

Ads, privacy and accounts

No ad networks and no popups showed up. The only third-party call was Cloudflare’s analytics. Signing in is optional for browsing, but you’ll need it to save chats and use everything. Community Guidelines and a Refund Policy are linked in the sidebar footer, which is a good sign for a credit-based app.

The Ninja’s take

Charmi is one of the cleaner AI chat platforms I’ve tested: quiet, multilingual and full of oddball original characters alongside the romance crowd. The credits system is the thing to watch. Enjoy the free side first, then decide if voice and photos are worth paying for.
