Binge-watching the Indian OTT scene

HITMaal is built around one thing: Indian adult web series, the kind of bold dramas that apps like Ullu, Atrangii and Besharams sell subscriptions for. Instead of short clips, you get full episodes listed one after another, each with its runtime and how long ago it went up. It’s moved house at least once, too: the old hitmaal.co address now redirects to hitmaal.io, so update your bookmark.

What’s playing

The homepage is a plain grid of recent episodes. On my visit the top rows were all from the past week or two: Shakahari Bhabhi, Maulana Ki Masti, Do Not Disturb, Slam Book, Kirayedar 2, Phulwa Ka Phool and Savita Bhabhi Ki Diary, often with episodes 1, 2 and 3 sitting side by side. Runtimes range from about 18 minutes to just under 50, which is proper TV-episode length. These are scripted, story-driven productions with Hindi dialogue, so expect plots about landlords, tenants and neighbours rather than wall-to-wall action.

The menu lets you browse by OTT platform, Models, Topics or the main Hot Web Series list, and there’s a row of direct shortcuts for Ullu, Atrangii, Besharams, Hunters, Jugnu and Rabbit. An Old Videos link at the bottom takes you into the back catalog. One honest note: these shows come from paid apps, so this is an unofficial mirror. If you get hooked on a series, the studio’s own app is the legit way to support it.

Design

The look is minimal: a dark navy background, a centred content column, a white HITMaal wordmark on the left and a rounded search box on the right. Thumbnails are big, three per row, and there’s nothing else competing for space. It’s clean, if a bit bare, and the episode grid stacks into a single column on a phone without any fuss. Search works well for finding a series by name, which is how most people will use it.

Speed

The pages are light and they come up fast. Jumping between episodes didn’t drag, which matters when you’re working through a three-part series in one sitting.

Ads

The site’s own description promises ‘no ads and no lag’. The second half is true. The first isn’t. My scan found popunder code plus scripts from adsco.re and cdn4ads, and an odd redirect domain loading in the background. You won’t see banner clutter on the page, but expect the occasional tab opening behind your window when you click a thumbnail. An ad blocker fixes most of it.

Worth a bookmark?

For fans of Indian web series, HITMaal is a quick, uncluttered way to follow new episodes from half a dozen apps in one place. The popunders and the unofficial nature of the content are the catches.
