Digital Point

Pros

  • Enormous archive: over 1.4 million messages in the Google board alone
  • Wide spread of boards from SEO and PPC to domains and payment processing
  • Marketplace, tools and a live 'Spy' activity page
  • Readable without an account
  • Fast for a forum of this size

Cons

  • Heavy ads, including a large sticky banner at the bottom
  • Lots of low-effort and repetitive posts
  • Very few logged-in members compared with guests
  • Dated look

The Ninja

  • Use the forum search for old threads; the archive is more valuable than the newest posts.
  • Be careful with service offers in profile posts and the marketplace; check feedback first.
  • Close the sticky bottom ad or use a content blocker for easier reading.

Walking into a legend’s house

Digital Point has been a fixture of the webmaster world for a very long time, and the forum still looks the part. Dark green header, a green ‘Sign up now!’ button, rows of speech-bubble icons, Trebuchet MS everywhere. The top of the page is an in-house ad pitch with a ‘Y U NO DO IT?’ rage-comic face and an offer to advertise from $1 per CPM or $0.10 per CPC. That meme alone dates the place, and honestly I found it a bit charming.

The boards and the numbers

The scale is serious. The Google forum alone shows 115,539 discussions and over 1.4 million messages. Search Engine Optimization sits at 78,251 threads, Affiliate Programs at 57,900, Domain Names at 50,136, and there are sections for Yahoo, Bing, directories, payment processing, link development, legal issues, copywriting, eCommerce, PPC and web design. The menu adds Tools, a Marketplace, Advertising, Members and a ‘Spy’ page that shows live activity. If you’re researching an old SEO question, the archive is a goldmine.

How alive is it, really?

This is where the shine wears off. The sidebar said 20,189 people online when I looked, but only 6 were logged-in members; the rest were 19,820 guests and 363 robots. The ‘latest post’ column tells a similar story. One user, conqueror777, was the latest poster in Yahoo, Bing, All Other Search Engines and Payment Processing, with threads like ‘What is Difference in On Page and Off Page SEO?’. The Affiliate Programs board led with ‘Who Is Making Sales With Clickbank Products In 2024?’. There are real discussions too, such as a thread on an AdSense RPM crash, but you’ll wade through filler to find them. Sorting by the busiest threads instead of the newest helps a lot. The New Profile Posts box was mostly people advertising services.

Ads

A lot. Google AdSense and DoubleClick units, the house ad block at the top, and a huge sticky banner across the bottom of the screen (on my visit, a SEOBOTX backlink offer at $50/mo) that hides a chunk of the forum list until you close it. No popups fired, but on a laptop screen the ads take a big share of the view.

Speed and mobile

Pages loaded quickly for a forum this size, and the layout does adapt to phones, though the sticky ad is even more intrusive there.

Who should join

New site owners hunting for answers in the archive, people buying or selling sites and domains in the marketplace, and anyone who misses the classic forum era. If you want sharp, current SEO debate, the posting quality may frustrate you. Reading is free; you’ll need an account to post or use the marketplace. Treat unsolicited service offers there with healthy suspicion.
