Your IP, on display

PrivateVPN opens with a little scare tactic. Under a yellow strip advertising 12 months plus 24 months extra, a purple bar shows your IP address with a red shield and the words You are not protected. Then comes the navy hero: Unlock Content and Stay Protected With a Private VPN, an orange Get PrivateVPN button, a Trustpilot badge and a mock-up of the app with a giant purple power button. A full-width cookie banner covers the bottom of the screen until you hit Accept.

What you actually get

This is a small provider and it doesn’t hide it. The site lists over 200 servers in 63 countries, which is modest next to the big names but covers the usual streaming and torrenting destinations. The feature list is where it gets interesting: port forwarding, which a lot of bigger VPNs dropped years ago and torrent users still care about, 10 simultaneous connections, unlimited bandwidth, and a zero-logs policy that leans on Swedish privacy law.

Apps are listed for Windows, Mac, iOS, Android and Kodi, with Linux and router setup guides. The marketing does get carried away in places. 2048-bit encryption with AES-256 is two different things mashed into one headline, and military-grade appears more than once.

Support that’s a bit different

The part I liked most: free remote help and installation. The site says you talk directly to in-house developers through the purple chat bubble in the corner, and they’ll help set the app up for you. For people who find VPN setup intimidating, that’s a genuinely useful perk you don’t see often.

The pricing table needs an editor

On my visit the plans were 9.90 USD for one month, 6.00 USD a month on the 3-month plan (17.99 billed every 3 months), and 2.00 USD a month on the 36-month deal, billed as 72.00 USD every 12 months after the first 36. Fine so far. But the one-month plan carries a SAVE 17% badge, which made me laugh (save compared to what?), and every single plan card, including the 36-month one, repeats Save most money by choosing 12 Months. Read the checkout page carefully so you know exactly what you’re paying now and what renews later. All plans come with a 30-day money-back guarantee.

Speed and trackers

The site loaded fast and works properly on a phone. What bothered me more is the tracking: Reddit and Quora pixels, a SalesManago marketing script, DoubleClick, plus Intercom and Trustpilot widgets, all on the homepage of a company selling privacy. It doesn’t say anything about the VPN itself, but it’s not a great look.

Who it suits

Torrent users who want port forwarding, households that need more than five devices, and beginners who’d like someone to set it up for them. If you want thousands of servers or flashy extras, look elsewhere. Check the pricing page for current plans before you sign up.
