A VPN that wants to be more than a VPN
The homepage title doesn’t even lead with VPN anymore. It says identity and scam protection, antivirus, VPN, in that order, and the whole page follows that script. Under a dark banner reading Hurry up! Grab our Black Friday deal here, a big teal hero shows a phone, a yellow Black Friday sticker, and the price: from $6.58 crossed out to $2.49 a month, plus three extra months. The small print says that figure is for the two-year Surfshark One plan, the bundle, not the plain VPN.
A cookie box pops up in the bottom left with OK, understood and Privacy controls. At least it gives you a choice.
The actual VPN part
When you scroll past the security pitch, the VPN section makes its claims: over 4,500 servers in 100 countries, servers reaching 10 Gbps, and RAM-only servers with a strict no-logs policy. Those are Surfshark’s own numbers. The page also highlights unlimited simultaneous devices, which is still the main reason families and flatmates pick it, and an ad and tracker blocker built into the app.
Apps are listed for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android, plus smart TVs, consoles and routers. Support is 24/7, and the site claims over 50 million app downloads. Surfshark is based in the Netherlands and has been part of the Nord Security group since 2022, the same family as NordVPN.
The upsell maze
The Products menu is where it gets busy: Incogni for removing your data from broker sites, Saily, HeyPolo, Dedicated IP, VPN for Teams. The scam section promises detection of suspicious texts and phishing emails, with call protection marked coming soon. Some of this is useful, but if you just want a VPN, you’ll need to click into Pricing to find a VPN-only plan; the homepage is clearly steering you to the bundle.
Design and speed
It’s a clean, modern site: rounded cards, lots of white space, Inter font, and a language picker with 17 languages including Korean, Japanese, Ukrainian and three Chinese variants. It loaded quickly and has a proper mobile layout. The irony of a privacy company loading DoubleClick on its homepage didn’t escape the Ninja, but that’s standard marketing tracking, not ads you’ll see.
Is it worth the money?
The pricing on my visit was a Black Friday deal, so check the pricing page for current plans and what the price renews at after the first term. The 30-day money-back guarantee is the real safety net here: install it, try your streaming services and your usual servers, and ask for a refund if it doesn’t do what you need.
For anyone with a lot of devices, Surfshark is an easy pick. If you only want a bare VPN at the lowest price, wade past the bundle pitch first.
