Pros

  • Wide spread of sections: software, games, video, audio, ebooks and magazines
  • Active threads with posts from the same day
  • Free registration
  • Request forums for music, video, software, games and documents
  • Light ads during my visit

Cons

  • German only
  • Most areas are hidden until you register
  • Dated layout and category tree (PS2, PSP, HD2DVD)
  • Activity is modest compared with the old Boerse boards
  • Software activators like KMSpico carry a high malware risk

The Ninja

  • Scan every software download and avoid activators and keygens, which are frequent malware carriers.
  • Use a throwaway email and a unique password for the forum account.
  • Check thread replies before downloading; dead links and fakes usually get called out there.

A forum straight out of 2010

Boerse.im opens like an old German board should: a dark header with a TV-set logo and BOERSE in big chrome letters, a beige background, and a little yellow warning box telling guests they only get limited access and that registration is free and easy. Above it a thin bar says Vote @ myGully Toplist. Below it a Hinweise box welcomes you to Boerse.IM, lists its sister domains (.AM, .KZ, .TW, .AI, .SX) and calls itself the right alternative to the old Boerse BZ/SX/SH. Everything is in German.

Worth being clear about: this presents itself as a successor to the famous Boerse boards, not as the original, and the activity numbers are on a much smaller scale than the old site was known for.

What’s in the sections

The Quick Links column on the left is a good map of the place. Software covers Windows, iPhone and iPad apps, Android, Mac, portable apps and scripts and templates. Spiele still lists PS2, PSP, Wii and Xbox 360 next to PC games, which tells you how old the category tree is. Video has Filme, Serien, DVDR, an HD Area and even 3D Filme. Audio goes from Lossless to the German Top 100 single charts and Hörbücher, and Dokumente has ebooks, comics and magazines with named folders for Der Spiegel, Die Zeit, FOCUS and GameStar. There’s also a request area (Suchanfragen) and a fair-sized Talk section.

As a guest you only see part of it. The board text says it straight out: register to see all areas.

Is anyone actually posting?

Yes, but at a modest pace. The busiest public forum I saw was Gaming Konsolen with 836 threads and 8,729 posts. Feedback had a post from that same morning, the Marktplatz had an IPTV 4K thread from the same day, and the beginners’ forum had a thread titled, fittingly, HI, altes Board oder neues? (old board or new?). Datenaustausch, the file-hoster and tools section, had a fresh thread about DDownload, and DDownload links also turned up in the page code, so expect one-click hosters rather than torrents.

One thing made me wince: the Freischaltung (activation) forum’s latest post was KMSpico. Activators like that are a classic malware vehicle, so treat anything from that corner with real suspicion.

Speed, ads and layout

Pages load at an okay speed, not fast, not painful. Ads were light during my visit, no popups on load, though the code includes a window.open call and a DoubleClick reference, so a click could open something extra. The table layout is dense and small-texted and the mobile view is basic, but it’s readable once you know where things live.

Who should sign up

German speakers who miss the old warez-board feel and want a single place for software, games, ebooks and magazines with a bit of chat on the side. If you don’t read German, or you just want a quick download without a forum account, look elsewhere.
